Biography

Cathy Fisher is an artist, illustrator and picture book maker renowned for her sensitive and delicate depictions of childhood, animals and the natural world.
She works in watercolours and mixed media, detailing a rich narrative on every page.
Her gentle and playful observations of everyday life, and her perceptive studies of its highs and lows, are an enduring source of joy for the children and adults worldwide who share Cathy’s lifelong passion for art and storytelling.
Cathy has worked with many acclaimed authors, including Nicola Davies. Their books Perfect, The Pond and The New Girl, were long-listed for the Kate Greenaway Medal.
Recently she collaborated with poet, nature writer and illustrator Jackie Morris to create The Panda’s Child and The Summer Puppy. The Panda’s Child was nominated for The Carnegie Medal for illustration. Both books are magical tales of the bond between animals and people. She is currently working on a picture book The Wild Lullaby with Jackie Morris.
Cathy grew up in Bath with four brothers and four sisters. She studied fashion and textile design at art school and taught art in England and the Seychelles before moving to Australia, where her children grew up.
She now lives in Sir Benfro (Pembrokeshire), as far west as you can go in Cymru (Wales) without falling into the sea. Here she draws inspiration from the stories and nature of this ancient land.
