BIOGRAPHY
Tunji Offeyi is an award-winning Nigerian-British journalist-poet and Salzburg Global Fellow, born in the coastal city of Lagos, Nigeria. He is currently a professional doctoral candidate in Heritage at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, under the supervision of Professor Nigel Nayling (Director of Studies) and Dr Ryan O’Byrne (Supervisor). Offeyi’s leadership and involvement in academic governance are evident in his role as a student representative on the University Research and Ethics Committee. He also coordinates the UWTSD Wellbeing project, “UWTSD Cares,” and produced a booklet on Heritage and wellbeing that will be published and exhibited by the University Library in Lampeter.
Offeyi’s academic journey is a testament to his dedication and scholarly pursuits. In addition to his role as an executive of the Liberal Democrats in the West Midlands, he has authored two books, namely ‘Echoes from the Soul,’ a collection of poems launched at The Albany Centre, London, in 2009, and ‘Many People: Different Tales,’ available on Amazon. His academic qualifications, including an MA in International Relations from Staffordshire University, a BA in Literature in English from Lagos State University, and certificates from the University of Oxford and the Central European University, reflect his commitment to learning and growth. His retraining in journalism through a program at the University of Derby and The Guardian UK further underscores his academic versatility.
Before his current endeavours, Offeyi practised journalism for several years in Lagos, Nigeria, mainly writing for The Week magazine (now defunct), where he rose to Special Correspondent (Lagos). His experience as a journalist is underscored by his privilege of interviewing notable personalities such as Izi Codron, the producer of the hit movie “Hotel Rwanda”; Nigerian legendary flautist Tee Mac Iseli; Professor Liz Barnes, former Vice Chancellor of Staffordshire University; and several Nollywood stars, including Segun Arinze, Stephanie Okereke-Linus, and Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), among others in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Offeyi’s career is marked by impactful contributions that have inspired change and reflection. His story, ‘Pleasures of the Night,’ prompted government action against prostitution and other vices around Lagos nightclubs. His collaboration with Television for the Environment (TVE) UK resulted in publishing his story, ‘Filming Against Poverty.’ His poem,
