My name is David Haworth, I have worked in the theatre industry for all of my adult life. I trained as a theatre designer, early in my career I began writing plays, I have had many plays professionally produced, mostly while Associate Director at Forest Forge Theatre Company between 2000 and 2015. In 2019, my play, ‘Winter Came’ was longlisted for the Bruntwood Prize. I recently moved to North Wales, between Llangollen and Wrexham. I still spend time working in the theatre but since the Covid Pandemic I have diversified my writing and have written one novel, ‘The Absence’ (awaiting publication) and many short stories, as well as microfiction and poetry. I read fiction and poetry at Spoken Word events. I have had some success with short story competitions and like to experiment with all genres of short stories. I have experience of running writers groups as well as storywriting workshops. I ran a weekly storywriting workshop for people living with cancer at a hospice for seventeen years and presented at Arts and Health conferences about this groundbreaking work. A lot of my theatre work is focused around specific communities, such as people with dementia, or people living with terminal illness, giving people a voice and celebrating their life stories. I like to make compassionate, thoughtful and beautiful work.
