Deb Winter – Writer and Performance Storyteller
Storyteller Deb Winter has delighted audiences across Wales with a huge range of storytelling shows, from a powerful exploration of addiction in The Red Shoes, through to her funny and quirky ‘Refried Fairy Tales’ – Grimm’s classic stories re-imagined. Deb tells beautifully-crafted stories with emotional depth, high energy and irrepressible humour, telling both traditional and original stories, tailoring her tales to the event. Lively and engaging, she makes a warm connection with audiences.
In 2021 Deb won the Gwobr Esyllt Harker Award for women storytellers in Wales, jointly with Ailsa Mair Fox. Their commissioned piece. Secrets and Silences was perfromed at Beyond the Border International Storytelling Festival in July 2023 to a standing ovation.
Deb has performed/led workshops for many clients (eg.Planed,Preseli Heartlands, Ports Past and Present,Ancient Connections,Age Cymru,National Trust,Pembrokeshire Coast,PeopleSpeakUp,Threshold Poetry Prize,Forest School,Libraries) and Festivals (Gwanwyn,Cheltenham Science,Tenby Arts,Llangollen Fringe,Priddy Folk, Swansea Fringe). Deb is a skilled wordsmith and can adapt to intimate gigs or festival tents.
Deb is a skilled group facilitator and her Storytelling Skills Workshops empower people to find their own voice as tellers and build confidence. Evaluation forms are always extremely positive. Deb teaches from experience, drawing on ten years of working as a storyteller.
Deb has 35 years experience as a Creative Writing Tutor. She is a skilled, prize-winning short story writer but most importantly has the gift of enabling other people to find their own voice. Attendees describe her workshops as inspiring and Deb herself as inspirational.
