Biography

Laura was born in Swansea in 1976 and made it all the way up the coast to Llantwit Major, where she now lives with her husband and two boys. She became a published writer in 2014 after being shortlisted for the inaugural Firefly Children’s Book Prize with her middle grade novel Mr Mahli’s Shed. Since then she has published two more books with Firefly; Sophie Finds a Fairydoor and Joe and the Adventure Door Pirates, both picture books written for the Fairydoorz company.
Laura’s second middle grade novel – Bananabeeyumio was published by Gomer in 2017. Her first non-fiction title for children was published by Giglets online library in 2022, and she continues to write for them as a freelancer.
As well as writing for children, Laura enjoys writing fiction for adults and poetry. Her epic narrative poem Edge was performed at the Llantwit Major Lit Fest in 2020 and has since been developed into a recording with musical backing by Sebastiaan Elsenburg.
Laura has led workshops for children in schools, run events at literature festivals and workshops for adults in creative writing. She is an experienced facilitator and a passionate advocate for creative writing in the community, being a founding member of These3Streams; Llantwit Major’s festival for the creative arts. Laura is open to commissions and keen to connect with anyone who is interested in creative writing.
