Biography

I am Terry Victor; I have been kicking around for a long time – as an actor, writer, comedy performer and slang lexicographer. Currently (since October 2019) I am engaged in scripting the weekly podcast Word Wrangling with Terry Victor. And occasional verse vs doggerel compositions for the on-line Tales from a Darkened Nursery.

Over the years I have had a number of my theatre works staged, both original and adaptations. It’s a long list that includes Clarissa!; Awkward Turtle Flips the Bird; Fragments of Ash; The Perplexing Puzzle of the Pedigree Pet; No Offence; Who’s Guilty Now?; Well Thumbed; Memoirs of a Lunatic; Anissia and The Death of Golden Age Fiction. My work has been seen Cardiff, London, Edinburgh and New York. More broadly, I have also written more than 40 semi-immersive cabaret whodunnits which have been enjoyed in venues and on trains across Europe.

In case the slang lexicographer credit needs explaining: I have compiler and editor status for all of the various editions of the New Partridge Dictionary of Slang and Unconventional English; Sex Slang; Vice Slang; and the Dictionary of English Rhyming Slangs. I am the author-compiler of Genre Fluid. To tie many sides of my work into a neat bow I have contributed the Theatrical Slang article for the upcoming Encyclopaedia of Theatre.
