Holly Müller is a novelist, short story writer and musician born in 1981 in Brecon, Wales to a Welsh mother and Austrian father. Her short story, My Cousin’s Gun, was published by Parthian Books in their anthology of new Welsh fiction entitled Rarebit. Rarebit was chosen as Waterstones Book of the Month for January 2014. She published another story called The Bare-chested Adventurer in an anthology by Seren Books: New Welsh Short Stories (2015). Her debut novel, My Own Dear Brother (2016), a historical fiction set in post-war Austria, is published worldwide with Bloomsbury, and is the product of several years of writing and research including the gathering of testimonies during a research trip to Austria. She has performed her work at literary events including Hay Literature Festival and Cheltenham Literature Festival and has written for the Independent and the Guardian. She achieved a first-class degree in Creative and Professional Writing at the University of South Wales and was awarded the Michael Parnell prize for submission of outstanding creative work. She has a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of South Wales where she tutored creative writing for several years. Holly has also taught novel-writing and fiction courses at Ty Newydd Writing Centre and elsewhere, and has run workshops on character development at literary events, such as Cardiff Literature Festival. Holly was a Literature Wales Writers’ Bursary recipient in 2017. Holly is also the singer, lyricist and violinist in the band Hail! The Planes and sings and writes music as part of the duo Honddu.
