Biography

Paul Henry is a poet and songwriter. Since receiving an Eric Gregory Award he’s published nine books of poetry, including The Brittle Sea: New and Selected Poems, recently reprinted by Seren and published in India as The Black Guitar. His latest collection, As If To Sing, won the Wales Book of the Year Poetry Award in 2023.

Originally from Aberystwyth, Paul has worked extensively in education and the media, performing his poems and songs at literary and music festivals in Europe, Asia and the USA. His poems have been widely anthologized and translated, his songs broadcast on Radios 2, 4 and 6. A former Writing Fellow at the University of South Wales, he’s written and presented arts programmes for BBC Radio Wales, Radio 3 and Radio 4.
Paul has guest-edited Poetry Wales and The Slate Sea anthology. His Seren collections also include Boy Running, Ingrid’s Husband and The Glass Aisle which was supported by a Creative Wales Award. He’s been a featured poet on BBC Radio 4’s Poetry Please.
A popular Creative Writing tutor, working with universities, schools and writing centres, Paul regularly tutors at Tŷ Newydd and has mentored many poets who’ve gone on to be published, including some through the Literature Wales Mentoring Scheme. www.paulhenrypoet.co.uk
