Tread with care as we roam through this poem.

Watch our wanderings print onto story rich soil.

Memories are buried here, under ridge and furrow,

waiting for our nourishing words and warmth.

The trees treasure what we have lost,

they trace half-remembered faces into their bark.

Gather brick-red rowan, twigs of birch and oak,

collect all the colours of memory,

as we amble our way through time.

Hanan Issa, National Poet of Wales 2022-2027.

This poem was commissioned to note a Covid-19 memorial woodland on Erddig estate.
