Celf ar y Cyd
This is a pamphlet of poems written by children and young people responding to some of the artwork that can be found on the new Celf ar y Cyd website.
At the beginning of 2024, Bardd Plant Cymru, Nia Morais travelled the length and breadth of Wales, visiting seven schools to lead creative workshops that explored the relationship between picture and literature. Using the egphrastic process (from the Greek word ekphrasis), the young people browsed through Amgueddfa Cymru’s online contemporary art collection, and responded by creating subtle poems full of images. The schools that took part were:
- Ysgol Gyfun Bryn Tawe, Penlan, Abertawe
- Ysgol Glan Clwyd, Llanelwy
- Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda,
- Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni, Ynys Môn
- Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, Wrecsam
- Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Pen-y-Groes, Pentwyn
- Ysgol Bro Caereinion, Llanfair Caereinion
The pupils admired the art and cultivated their analysis and interpretation skills through the medium of Welsh. They were taught that each individual’s experience of a work of art is unique, and that art – be it paintings, sculpture, photography, videos and more – has the ability to stimulate emotions of all kinds, and that each child’s analysis is relevant and valid.
Thank you to the Welsh Government for sponsoring this project.
