Durre Shahwar

Durre Shahwar is a writer and the Co-Editor of Gathering, an essay anthology on nature, climate, the landscape by women of colour (forthcoming 2024, 404 Ink). Durre is a PhD candidate in Creative Writing at Cardiff University and University of Bristol. She teaches Creative Writing and is an Associate Fellow of Higher Education. Durre is Wasafiri Magazine’s Writer-in-Residence and also a Future Wales Fellow, looking at climate justice through art with the Arts Council of Wales and Natural Resources Wales. Durre’s work overlaps the boundaries between non-fiction, essay, autofiction, short story and poetry and visual work, and has been published most prominently in Wasafiri Magazine, Know Your Place: Essays on the Working Class (Dead Ink Books), We Shall Fight Until We Win (404 Ink), Welsh (Plural) (Repeater Books), Homes for Heroes 100: Council Estate Memories (Bristol Festival of Ideas), Artes Mundi, Sister-hood Magazine and Visual Verse. Her short play ‘On My Terms’ was performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In 2017, she co-founded ‘Where I’m Coming From’, an open mic group aimed at underrepresented writers in Wales.

Nasia Sarwar-Skuse

Nasia Sarwar-Skuse is a writer and PhD candidate in Creative Writing at Swansea University and the Co-Editor of “Gathering, an essay anthology on nature, climate, the landscape by women of colour” (forthcoming 2024, 404 Ink). She has been working as a creative writing facilitator for four years and is passionate about the presence of authenticity in literature by ethnic voices and its intersections with colonialism, diaspora, gender and memory. Nasia was recently commissioned by Literature Wales in partnership with Natural Resource Wales to co-lead a project exploring the impact of nature and the environment on well-being through creativity. Her writing has appeared in various publications.
