Calan Mai Storytelling
Kestrel Morton is bringing a unique blend of storytelling, local traditions and folklore to our beauftiful barn, with a day and evening packed full of spring celebrations for Calan Mai, with music by Heulwen Williams.
In the day, we’ll have a host of family friendly activities including Maypole dancing* and the Battle of the Seasons, interwoven with songs and stories to celebrate the end of Winter.
Then, as the sun sets in the evening, we’ll serve and toast a drink as we light a traditional “Need Fire”*, inviting good luck and prosperity to those who walk between the flames, followed by an evening session of adult storytelling and music.
Kestrel Morton is a storyteller based in South Wales and usually found bewitching audiences with spider-web tales spun from the echoes of the wild, blurring reality with myth and drawing the otherworld close. A deep love of folklore inspires their work bringing old traditions back to life to reconnect communities with the landscape and seasons.
They’ve performed on stages and in caves, at wassails, in schools and at festivals across the UK including at Brighton Fringe, the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, The Green Gathering and Beyond the Border, most recently touring their show Binderella with The Ragged Storytelling Collective across Wales in 2024.
