Andrew Hurley – Newport Festival of Words
The master of English folk horror joins us to discuss his chilling, atmospheric new book. Barrowbeck by Andrew Michael Hurley begins when a group of marsh-folk are forced from their homes and find a new place to settle and ends in a near-future flood zone where humans and the climate catastrophe have ravaged the planet.
Andrew Michael Hurley is a prize-winning and critically-acclaimed novelist who lives in Lancashire. The Loney won the Costa Best First Novel Award and the Book of the Year at the British Book Awards. Devil’s Day won the Encore Award. Starve Acre was released as a film starring Matt Smith and Morfydd Clark in autumn 2024.
This event is part of the first Newport Festival of Words taking place from the 20th – 23rd March. A celebration of words, from songwriting to storytelling, poetry to prose, and featuring local, national and international writers and performers.
