Brutal and beautiful: Meredith Miller delivers a sensationally chilling masterpiece with her new novel ‘Cold Grace.’

Honno proudly presents ‘Cold Grace’ from acclaimed author Meredith Miller. Set in 1900’s New England, Miller transports readers into ruthless winter landscape and a community on the fringes of society.

A story of survival and humanity, Miller tackles themes of disability, eugenics and rural life in a coming-of-age story that will leave readers breathless, bereft and bewitched. Winter closes in on a New England valley and a violent history is about to repeat itself. Eddie and Jeanne are already tied together by a violent and shocking past, now on the cusp of adulthood their family histories are brought to light in a tale as chilling and dark as the harsh New English winter.

A historical novel that delves into modern problems, Miller says, “Cold Grace raises questions that are pertinent today and which a lot of people are discussing – colonialism, national borders, reproductive freedom.” Blending her own experiences, the past and present, through ‘Cold Grace’, Miller has created a literary masterpiece that will delight readers of both historical and literary fiction.”

Meredith Miller was born and raised on Long Island, in New York. Before moving to the UK in 1997, she lived on the beach in Oregon for a little while, and in New Orleans for a longer while. She has published two previous novels, ‘Little Wrecks’ (2017) and ‘How We Learned to Lie’ (2018). She lives in mid Wales in a tiny house with a chapel attached. A Welsh learner, Meredith is currently restoring the chapel as a literary and cultural space for the Welsh language. Her third book ‘Fall River’ was published by Honno in 2024.
