Guest Speaker: Jamie D. Stacey. Novelist
Jamie D. Stacey lives in Swansea. His flash fiction and short stories have been published in more than a dozen anthologies. He was nominated for the Pushcart Prize, won the Worcestershire Flash Fiction LitFest twice and placed or shortlisted in numerous others including the Oxford Flash Fiction Prize and Flash500.
His debut novel All the Waves, Calling was set in the Scottish Highlands and explores grief and hope, it was published in 2023 by Black Pear Press. He is currently working on his next novel, exploring shame and guilt, which is set in a yoga school in Rishikesh, India. He is also a reader for the literary journal, WestWord.
Beyond writing he has been metalworker cutting aluminium and an academic in international relations. He has chased after children as an animateur in Bordeaux, France and lived in a martial arts academy in Rizhao, China. He spends a lot of time baking unusual bread and even more unusual cakes. He says “yes” when he can and tries to understand and write the world one story at a time. An avid reader of scratches on walls and scribbles in notebooks, he is drawn to stories that empathise, encourage, and empower. Whether he writes very short stories or novels, whatever the form or shape it’s the heart and hope inside each that matters.
Amongst other things, he hopes to talk about the need for resilience that a writer needs to be able to deal with rejection and to grow from it.
