Wales Book of the Year 2024 – Apply Now for Event Funding!
Thanks to funding from the Books Council Wales’ New Audiences fund, this year we’re providing £4,000 of funding to support 75% of shortlisted writers’ fees and expenses for events.
The funding is intended to help writers reach new audiences across Wales and promote their books and the Wales Book of the Year Prize.
As authors and publishers, we encourage you to speak with local venues such as bookshops to arrange an event between 12 May and 30 November 2024. The event organiser (e.g., publisher, venue, school or literary society etc, but not the writer themselves) will then need to complete this short application form.
The final date for applications is Thursday 27 June. Due to the short turnaround time, funding will be distributed on a first come, first served basis, at panel meetings on 20 May, 10 June and 1 July. You will be notified of the outcome within 2 days of the relevant panel meeting.
Key details & dates:
- Apply for up to 75% of writer fees and travel expenses for events.
- Writers included must be shortlisted for Wales Book of the Year 2024.
- Applications must be made from an organisation (i.e. publisher, bookshop, literary society) and not the writer themselves.
- Event must take place in Wales between 12 May and 30 November 2024.
- Events funded through this scheme are not eligible for additional funding through the Books Councils’ Outreach Scheme or the Literature Wales Inspiring Communities Fund.
- Applications must be received by 5.00 pm, Thursday 27 June.
- Payment will be made to the organiser after the event, on receipt of a completed evaluation form.
- Grant payments cannot be made directly to writers and must go to the event organiser. The event organiser is responsible for paying the writer in full.
Please ensure you have all the relevant details to hand before you begin your application: dates, times, venue, writer details, writer fee and expenses. If the event is not taking place within a bookshop, we’d like to ensure there is provision for a local bookseller to sell Wales Book of the Year shortlisted titles at the event, so you’ll need to arrange this with a local bookseller before applying for funding.
