We use social media to share information about Literature Wales. This includes promoting our services and activities and sharing the impact of our work. We also endeavour to entertain our followers with creative and inspiring content, and to celebrate and platform the diverse voices of Wales. In addition, we use our social media platforms to promote literary activities across Wales and any services or opportunities we believe may be of interest to our audiences.

We value individuality and diversity and are grateful that social media provides a space for sharing opinions, values, and productive conversations. We love seeing our community on social media develop and interact with one another. They often share ideas, offer support and congratulations, and inspire each other. It allows us to celebrate our differences and learn from each other.

We want to ensure that our social media channels offer a safe environment for those associated with Literature Wales and for those who engage with our posts. This includes our followers as well as the writers we work with, participants, our partners and funders, and our staff members and Directors. Below we have outlined our promise to our digital community, and what we expect in return.

Our Promise

  • Accuracy: We endeavour to ensure that our posts are accurate and fact-checked where needed. If we make a mistake, we will correct it promptly.
  • Transparency: We will be clear and open about our activity – how decisions are made and how they are delivered and funded.
  • Professionalism: We will be polite, fair and respectful.
  • Responsibility: We will abide by the terms of use of the social media platforms we use. We will be considerate of other people’s privacy and respect confidentiality.
  • Values: We will always uphold our values. We will share our content in both Welsh and English and ensure that our community can engage with us in either language.

What to expect from Literature Wales

  • We don’t use social media to engage in conversation and debate – it creates its own challenges and isn’t suitable for nuanced discussions.
  • We don’t use these platforms to explain the complexities of how our organisation works, or to explain constitutional matters and organisational policy.
  • We will respond to @mentions when we feel that our audience would benefit from a response. Our Direct Messages are routinely monitored, but as a rule we do not prioritise enquiries sent via social media. If you have a question or concern which requires an individual response, or if you’re looking for a swift reply, please contact us directly.
  • Our website provides plenty of helpful information about Literature Wales, our activities, our strategic vision and how the organisation works. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, please get in touch: Contact Us

What we ask of our social media community

We welcome our audience’s opinions whether they are positive or negative, but we ask you to treat each other, including those managing Literature Wales’ social media accounts, with respect and kindness.

Unfortunately, this is not always the case, and Literature Wales – as well as individuals associated with us – occasionally face instances of trolling or conduct which we deem unacceptable.

We will not engage with trolls. We will take action where needed to block or remove individuals trolling Literature Wales and associated individuals, whether they are inciting hate speech, bullying, or posting untruths and causing upset.

We don’t tolerate the following (please note, this list is not exhaustive):

  • Bullying, harassment, or trolling
  • Violence or hate speech
  • Discrimination
  • Content or material which is offensive, obscene, or criminal
  • False, misleading, and defamatory statements about any person or organisation
  • Releasing confidential information
  • Material in breach of copyright
  • Spam
  • Repeated posts aimed at selling a product or service

We reserve the right to remove any content containing any of the above, and we will report any posts which violate the terms of use set by the platform providers.

Please also respect privacy and confidentiality – don’t release information that isn’t yours to share.

If you see anything, whether posted by Literature Wales or by others on our feeds, in comments or threads, which you believe violate the guidelines outlined here, please contact us to inform us if you are happy to do so.
