In These Times
National Trust Cymru launched this year’s #BlossomWatch campaign in Wales at an event at the Senedd on Wednesday 16 March. The campaign encourages people to share the joy of blossom this spring and celebrate this key moment in nature’s calendar. To celebrate the launch, Children’s Laureate Wales, Connor Allen, composed the below poem. Read more about this commission here.
In these times of great uncertainty
2050 will have more plastic than fish in the sea
Humanity focused on deforestation and cutting down trees
We have to dream big and think smart
In these times of life below water and life on land
Let’s protect the future, come take our hand
plant blossoming trees from Snowdonia to Gower sands
And let’s all make an impactful start
In these times where nature can be our friend
Exploring the hidden charm puts our souls on the mend
There are pockets of Welsh beauty I cannot comprehend
We need future generations to take part
In these times where connections to each other and outside is essential
And all across Wales, across generations there’s a sea of potential
Where if we come together the impact on the climate can be influential
There’s hopefulness that fill my heart
Connor Allen,
Children’s Laureate Wales 2021-2023
