Ar y Dibyn | a partnership between Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, Literature Wales and Adra
We all have a bank of stories that aren’t heard regularly.
Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, Literature Wales and Adra‘s Writing on the Edge project offers opportunities for people affected by addiction – people living with addiction themselves or supporting someone with an addiction – to come together and share these stories in a creative way.
In weekly writing and theatre workshops during November and December 2020, we’ll move forward together to celebrate life’s possibilities, rather than the obstacles of addiction.
We’ll laugh, notice things anew, shed a tear or two, but also celebrate that we’re still here and see the best in each other.
Each workshop will include short playful tasks to prod our imaginations and release our ideas. We’ll begin to create new written work and develop it within the sessions, supporting each other to move it forwards in our own time. There are no wrong answers, just a whole world of possibilities.
We hope to develop powerful, brave and ambitious work that comes from the heart, and find ways of sharing the work widely (anonymously or otherwise). Our vision is to create a safe space to freely express ourselves, without judgment, and without having to reveal any details of our personal circumstances. We realise that we all have varied experiences of addiction and each individual’s personal struggles will be respected and kept in a safe environment.
A reading of the work from the original project was held in Galeri Caernarfon in 2019, but due to the current situation, we will find other creative ways of sharing our experiences.
Qualified health specialists will also contribute creatively within the tasks and advice will be available at each session as the need arises. They’ll also be available for half an hour at the end of each session for informal discussions, but these won’t be mandatory.
Register your interest by emailing creu@theatr.com and Iola Ynyr, Lead Artist, can arrange an informal chat to discuss any questions. We’re keen to welcome anyone who’d like to join us in these workshops and no prior experience of creative writing is needed to take part.
If you have any barriers that may stop you from joining us, please get in touch so we can address them. We want this project to be accessible to all, and to offer inclusive ways of taking part. There’s no concern too small to discuss.
