Project name: Medicine for the soul: an exploration of creative writing as a healing art
Participants: Those living with chronic pain
Lead artist: Deborah Llewelyn
Digital platform: Zoom
Project Information:
Recent studies have shown that the benefits of creative writing for people living with chronic pain include decreased depressive feelings, reduced stress, increased positive emotion, improved immune system function and improved control over pain. This course will provide a safe space to discuss thoughts and feelings whilst exploring varied writing styles and voices. It will offer a sense of purpose, a chance to connect with others and an opportunity to join a community of like-minded people with shared experiences. The course is intended for all skill levels, whether participants are first-time creative writers or have had a regular practice for years.

“My workshops are built around writing exercises that encourage the imagination to yield up its fruit. They will provide a means of social connection and mutual support to people living with chronic pain. Participants will be empowered and discover a vantage point on their conditions that offers meaning and hope.” – Deborah Llewelyn
